- What's worse than finding one of these trapped in your garden? Finding it at 7am when there's no-one to advise you what to do.
- I Googled the RSPCA and RSPB. No chance of getting through to a human being at that time of the day. Finally just before 9am Christchurch Council told me the person I needed was Mike Meeks.

- Mike appeared at my house within half an hour by which time the heron had taken up residence at the back of a 6ft deep hedge. I can recommend Mike's gardening skills. He had to hack his way through - it had been raining (unusual for England in the summer!) so he had to crawl through slug infested undergrowth. Does this man's love of animals know no bounds? He tucked the bird under his arm and crawled out backwards to pop the heron into a box.

- Back home he gave the heron a health check and then released it down on Stanpit Marsh. That evening he even took the time to ring me to update me on events. My heartfelt thanks Mike.
